1. What is The Power of WHO?
The Power of WHO is a grass roots movement catching fire all across the nation transforming the way people think about “networking.” It teaches us that if you really want to pursue your dreams and goals, you have to “Get out the Box” and “Into your Circle-your Circle of Friends.” With just a few slight course corrections you could alter the entire trajectory of your life or even better someone else’s!

2. How can this Power change the way people view the world?
First, it tells people--You’re Not Alone! That…You Got “Who!” What I’m talking about is a “community of friends” that’s been built over many years with love and unconditional giving. These are friends who genuinely care about you and share your core values. This particular network of friends, if asked, will actually come to your aid. They want you to succeed. They want you to achieve your goals. In fact, they love you just the way you are. Here’s a revolutionary thought. What if your friends were given to you as gifts to specifically help you through life? What if their intended role was not just to laugh with you or to cry with you, but to enable you to fulfill your destiny, to live out your dreams?
We need to disconnect from the Matrix and busy-ness of life… and begin to:
- Remember, Reach-out and Re-connect with our friends.
- We need to ask them for help and give them help in return.
- If you do this…your business will grow, and more importantly, you will grow closer to the people who should matter the most – your friends.

3. Where did you get the idea for the book? What was your Aha moment?
As an Executive Recruiter, I get 1000’s of resumes/calls each year from people hurting. They’ve lost their job, don’t like their job, they’re not celebrated- just tolerated. As a result, they’ve gotten sidetracked and forgotten their original dream. They don’t know what to do or where to turn. They need a friend to offer a little encouragement, a shoulder to lean on or just a glimmer of hope…But the problem with networking as people practice it today is that it implies friendship with people who are actually just mere acquaintances. People have been taught – incorrectly – that mixing friends and business is Taboo. “Don’t overstep the relationship,” they say. Somehow, pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps has come to mean doing it all by yourself with help from only strangers. Big Mistake!
The thought also kept coming back to me. “Can you match what you love with what you do?” It was heartbreaking to field all these calls from people who seem trapped in a maze and didn’t know a way out. That’s when I created the “100-40 Strategy”-A paradigm shattering strategy that centers “networking” back where it was meant to be, surrounded by your friends and your friends of friends. I wrote an article on this in an airline magazine and got 100s of letters from people all over the country saying that it was a God-Send, so simple and best of all it worked! From that article, I was encouraged by my Dad and friends to write The Power of WHO!

4. Why do you think this book is relevant?
People are hurting today!
- 10.2 million People are now desperately looking for work!
- 2.8 million More than last year and the # is growing.
- Add to that 69% of the country believes-a “bad day at the beach is better than a good day at work!”
- 80% of the people working in corporation’s today- aren’t using their #1 talent in their job!
- So that means we are spending billions of dollars training people in jobs they don’t want to do!
- Everyone 55-60 plus years of age--well we’re trying to outplace/retire them early because we don’t want to pay their long-term healthcare/benefits.
- Gen Y is entering the work place-they don’t know the questions they should ask--so when they find out they have a job vs. a dream job-they’ll be shocked!
So who are these people? Do we Care? Of course we do—they’re our Friends!!
Each of us knows 1-2 people right now facing one of these dilemmas. So what’s your advice? Mine is---The Power of WHO!!!

5. Who should read this book?
I think this book is for everyone. Those who need a job, want a better job, yearn to smash a sales record or just want a richer life. The Power of WHO is about more than just relationships. It forces you to look inside yourself and it challenges your conventional thinking. For others it’s a stimulating guide of self discovery about leading a happier, healthier and more productive life. It opens doors of wonderful memories, long-forgotten, and inspires you to explore avenues of new beginnings yet to come. It’s also a wonderful reminder that we should respect all the relationships we are fortunate enough to create in our journey through life.

6. What are the results if you use the Power of WHO?
Once we change our paradigm from “me first,” “me alone,” and “I can do it by myself,” to “how I can help you?” “What do you need?” and “yes, I will help,” then everything in our lives will change for the better. The results will be:
- a revitalization and reconnection with authentic relationships
- a reigniting of your dreams
- a career and life path based on your passions

7. How would you classify The Power of WHO?
Motivational? Self help?
Not sure you can classify it. Because it’s inspirational, motivational, self-help, step by step, a business book, a book that speaks to our soul, our lifestyle, our dreams and goals, and encourages and “Who Coaches” us on how to steer your ship back on course toward your Dream. Young, old, we are all seeking to find our one true authentic swing in life, something we were born with, something that’s ours and ours alone. It’s not something that’s taught or learned-it’s something that has to be remembered. To find it you have to:
- Get out of the Box and into Your Circle- Your circle of friends!

8. What do you hope readers will take away from the book?
My purpose in writing this book was to introduce the reader to a revolutionary concept that will get them moving toward their dreams and goals in ways they never imagined possible. Along the way they would discover their “Who” and when they do their passion would be reignited and once again they would believe that what they only dreamed about was actually possible!
But I also want people to know a “Who” person is a giver! The great motivational speaker Zig Ziglar once said:
“You can have everything in life you want if you will just help others get what they want.” Giving is such an essential part of The Power of WHO. Giving unconditionally releases joy within you that you never knew existed.
Finally after reading The Power of WHO they will realize:
“You Already Know Everyone You Need To Know”

9. How has The Power of WHO helped you in your work?
I’ve developed a database of over 5,365 people in My WHO World that can say, “Hi, Bob.” That really doesn’t mean a lot except that I know a lot of people because of my business. I had what I thought was a great networking strategy, but I was about to discover I was dead wrong. I used to try to touch 1,000 or so a year with notes and calls and visits. It was exhausting. I have over five million miles accumulated on American Airlines to show for it! One day I stopped and studied who had actually given me business or touched my life in some significant way over the last ten years. I can’t tell you, in words, how shocked I was to learn that there were only 87! Eighty-seven out of 5,365! How could I have missed that? My strategy was to run all over the country giving out little pieces of Bob to thousands of people, and the return, in actual business, was nil. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy meeting people, but I should have been spending more time investing in the 87 who were actually impacting my life in significant ways. When I discovered the “100/40 Strategy,” everything changed. My business quadrupled! Now, I focus a larger portion of my time interacting with the people on my “100 List,” and the rest takes care of itself.

10. What is the biggest mistake people make when they go after
their dream job?
Most people never get what they want for three simple reasons.
- They don’t ask. No one can help if they don’t know what you want.
- When they do ask, they ask the wrong "Who." For some reason, people are uncomfortable asking their “Who” for help. As a result, they’ll ask most anyone except their friends, who are the only ones with a motive to help.
- When they do ask for help, they ask too vaguely. Even if I’m motivated to help a friend, I can’t do it when I don’t know what he or she wants.

11. If I were going to implement the Power of WHO, where do I start?
The “Who” List! .Too many people start their dream search with a misstep. They focus mostly on the “What” (what they want) and neglect the “Who” (those special friends or friends of friends who can help them). Most of us don’t even think about our closest friends as possible resources when it comes to pursuing our dreams and goals and we tend to compartmentalize our lives into “personal” and “professional.” Big Mistake!!
Step 1-Make a List! .First is your Inner Circle 12-3-1. You get 12 friends. 3 close and 1 best. Your closest friends are your “Inner Circle” of greatest influence. Can you tell me who they are?

12. Do sites like Facebook, MySpace, etc. have any value at all
when the chips are down and it’s time for a change?
Facebook has over 60 million users and they are growing at a rate of 2million per week. A recent study by O2 stated that the 1967 concept of “Six degrees of separation” coined by Stanley Milgram is now out-of-date! Due to the impact of Social Networking the average person is connected by just Three degrees—friends, family and business.
What I love about social networks and is important as it relates to The Power of WHO-is that Social Networks are an amazing resource tool for all of us to use. When you join and enter in where you went to High School or college, clubs etc. Immediately the network starts working for YOU! It gives you names and pictures of old friends!! Old friends that we have forgotten! Friends that we need to reach-out and re-connect with!
Wouldn’t it be tremendous to find out that the one person you need to know to accomplish a goal or fulfill your dream turns out to be an old friend you find on Facebook! Is it possible that this lost friend could be the key that unlocks the door allowing you to achieve an important goal? The most amazing secrets and the most profound ideas are the simplest, but a lot of times they’re the hardest to see.
